Program Description
Step into the ancient world at Herculaneum, a remarkably preserved Roman town buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Once home to wealthy Roman residents, the site reveals an extraordinary collection of elegant houses, colourful mosaics and marble decorations that offer a fascinating glimpse into everyday life nearly 2,000 years ago.
Explore the archaeological site with an expert archaeologist and learn how the volcanic material that covered the town helped preserve structures and objects that would normally have disappeared over time. Ancient roofs, wooden elements, beds and even parts of the original sewage system have survived, providing remarkable insight into Roman architecture and daily life.
Walk through ancient streets and residential buildings while uncovering the story of Herculaneum, from its prosperous Roman past to the catastrophic eruption that buried the town for centuries.

- Children must be accompanied by an adult.
- Wear comfortable shoes and, in summer, bring sunglasses and sunscreen.
- After the guided tour, you can remain inside the archaeological site and continue exploring independently.
- Meeting point: in front of the Herculaneum ticket office. Show your smartphone ticket to the guide holding an “Askos Tours” sign.
