Program Description
Take a break from the hustle and bustle of Florence and discover the true heart of Tuscany – the enchanting Val d’Orcia Valley, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Gentle hills lined with cypress trees, medieval hill towns, and unforgettable flavors await you on this journey through the most picturesque part of Italy.
Depart Florence aboard a comfortable coach and head south toward the rolling hills of Tuscany.
Your first stop will be Montalcino, a charming hilltop town world-famous for its Brunello di Montalcino wine. After a short walk, you’ll arrive at a local winery where you’ll learn about the secrets of Brunello production. Enjoy a guided tasting and experience why this full-bodied red is considered one of Italy’s finest wines.
Then, make your way through the picturesque streets up to the town’s peak, where a breathtaking view awaits you: golden rolling hills, ancient oaks, and silvery olive groves. It’s the perfect spot to capture a few unforgettable photos!
Next, visit Pienza – the “ideal city” designed in the 15th century by order of Pope Pius II. Stroll through its elegant Renaissance streets, admire the cathedral, and see the Piccolomini Palace – featured in Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet. From the town’s terraces, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Val d’Orcia countryside stretching far into the horizon.
Continue your journey toward the Chapel of Madonna di Vitaleta, one of Tuscany’s most iconic landmarks. This small stone chapel, framed by tall cypress trees, creates a stunning contrast against the soft green hills. According to legend, the Virgin Mary once appeared here to local shepherds.
As the drive continues, you’ll pass by the cinematic landscapes made famous in Ridley Scott’s Oscar-winning film Gladiator. This is where Russell Crowe’s character walked through golden fields surrounded by cypress trees.
The final stop of the day will be Montepulciano, an elegant Renaissance town known for its Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Step into an ancient underground cellar built beneath centuries-old walls and take part in a tasting of fine wine paired with local Pecorino cheese and regional snacks. It’s the perfect finale to a day filled with taste, history, and scenery.
