Program Description
Budapest is about more than the monumental buildings lining the Danube. In the city's 7th district, another story unfolds - that of the Jewish community, which has helped shape Budapest's culture and character for generations. During a guided walk, you'll discover Budapest's Jewish heritage and places that still bear witness to its rich past.
The highlight of the tour is the Dohány Street Synagogue - the largest operating synagogue in Europe and the second largest in the world. Its impressive interior can accommodate up to 3,000 people, while its blend of Romantic and Moorish architectural elements gives the building its distinctive character. You'll also visit the Hungarian Jewish Museum, located within the complex, as well as a memorial dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust.
But the story of Jewish Budapest doesn't end there. Together with your guide, you'll discover more places across the Jewish Quarter and hear stories that will help you better understand its significance to the city. Landmarks, architecture and stories of the people who lived here come together to reveal a district that remains an important part of Budapest's cultural identity.
