Program Description
Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes is an extraordinary zoo with a long and interesting history. As you walk through the zoo, you’ll discover historic enclosures that have been home to exotic species since the late 18th century. Opened in 1794, the Ménagerie is one of the oldest zoos in the world, where animals have been admired for generations amid buildings dating back to the time of the French Revolution.
You’ll encounter over 1,200 animals - among them are red pandas, monkeys, snakes, and lizards. Along the way, you’ll also learn about the zoo’s role in international conservation and breeding programmes for endangered species.
A visit to the Ménagerie is a perfect addition to classic sightseeing in Paris - a calm break from the city’s busy streets and a chance to enjoy something different.
