Program Description
Discover Medellín - a city that in the 1980s was considered one of the most dangerous in the world, and today stands as a symbol of social transformation and innovation in Colombia. This is an enriching full-day experience, including a round-trip flight from Cartagena to Medellín, allowing you to explore the history, culture, and modern identity of this remarkable city in just one day.
After landing, you will begin a panoramic tour of Medellín’s most iconic areas. You will drive through the elegant district of El Poblado, see the modern business hub known as the Golden Mile, and visit lively Lleras Park, a popular meeting point filled with restaurants, cafés, and local energy. You will also stop at the impressive Metropolitan Cathedral, one of the largest brick-built churches in Latin America and an important architectural landmark of the city.
The tour continues to the surroundings of the Antioquia Museum and Botero Square, home to the distinctive sculptures of Fernando Botero. These oversized figures have become symbols of Medellín and offer insight into the artist’s unique style and his subtle social commentary on Colombian life.
Next, you will head to the western part of the city, where the most visible signs of Medellín’s transformation can be seen. A ride on the Medellín cable car system demonstrates how innovative public transportation has helped integrate once-isolated hillside neighborhoods into the urban core. You will also explore Comuna 13, a district that has undergone an extraordinary revival. Walking among vibrant murals and riding the outdoor public escalators provides a powerful perspective on how infrastructure, street art, and community initiatives have reshaped the area.
To conclude, you will learn about the “Techo una historia” project, where rooftops and houses have been transformed into large-scale murals that tell the story of Medellín and its people. It is a moving and authentic way to understand the resilience, creativity, and pride that define the city today. After the tour, you will return by plane to Cartagena.
