Program Description
An inspiring journey into Colombia’s rich wildlife awaits you at the Colombia National Aviary, located about an hour from Cartagena near the beautiful area of Barú. As the second largest aviary in Latin America, this remarkable place offers a unique insight into the country’s extraordinary biodiversity. The scenic drive itself is a pleasant introduction, with changing landscapes and views that reflect the natural beauty of the region.
Upon arrival, you will set off on a guided walk through the aviary, designed as a living exhibition of natural ecosystems. The route leads through three distinct environments – a humid tropical rainforest, desert habitat, and coastal ecosystem – allowing you to experience the incredible variety of conditions found across Colombia in a single visit.
Along the way, you will encounter Colombia’s most iconic bird species, including the majestic Harpy Eagle, the colorful Caribbean Toucan, elegant Pink Flamingos, and numerous species of parrots and tropical birds. The aviary is home to more than 138 species and around 1,800 individual birds, showcased across 21 themed exhibits. Your guide will share fascinating facts about their behavior, natural habitats, and the importance of conservation, making the visit both engaging and educational.
