The tour begins with a pick-up from the hotels. The morning programme includes shopping and sightseeing in Mombasa, a city steeped in history dating back to the 12th century when spice traders from Arabia came here taking advantage of the monsoon winds. The itinerary takes you through the historic quarter with the impressive Fort Jesus built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, historic mosques and narrow, bustling streets. In addition, there will also be a visit to the old harbour where the dhow boats are moored, time to shop for souvenirs in the local shops and a visit to the Akamba carvers, where you will be able to see them at work and purchase traditional wooden carvings. Then drive to Mama Ngina waterfront, where you will find the famous baobab tree with its massive trunk and unique shape, which has great cultural and medicinal significance. Break for a refreshing drink of coconut water. The last item on the itinerary is lunch at Forodhani restaurant overlooking the ocean, during which traditional Swahili cuisine will be served. The tour concludes with a return to the hotels.
